You are currently browsing the archive for the Utilities category.

INSECURE.ORG has posted their top 100 network security tools.

Enjoy the list here.

There aren’t many surprises on the list, but it’s broken out well with nice icons so you know which platform things are going to run on, and if it’s command line only or GUI.

Thanks fellas.

A very handy .iso for testing the strength of user password (uh-huh) or getting into a machine you’re locked out of.

Get it today here.

Update: I downloaded this and gave it a whirl.  I used a IBM Stinkpad T40 for testing.  Not the fastest machine on the planet but not to shabby either.  The Administrator password was one of 8 Characters, using both Upper and Lowercase, including Numbers and a non-alpha character (1).  OphCrack2 popped that password in about 20 minutes.  It’s still working on the other accounts including the IUSR_ account and the IWAM account.  It also immediatly showed that the Guest and User accounts had no passwords (though they were disabled)

Nice… :)

X1 Technologies Desktop Search is now FREE. Yessir. Amit has posted a very extensive write up in what you get and what you lose if you upgrade here.

Need I say more? If you were too cheap to spring for the $75 bucks, get it now. Hopefully you won’t have to install all of that Yahoo stuff.

Always on the lookout for a better launcher/utility. SlickRun is it. It reminds me a lot of LaunchBar for OSX only not tied to the menu bar.

If you hate to wander from the keyboard to launch a simple application or to check your mail, then this is the utility for you!

Despite having been built on top of Delphi I still like it. :)

It just sits, hovering above all else on your desktop minding it's business displaying the date and time:

SlickRun

Hit the magic key combination windows key-Q and type in a "Magic Word":

SlickRun2

viola!

Your application or command will be taken care of. Pretty nifty stuff.

Poohbah rating: A+ so far.

Don't like the way Outlook/Outlook Express fumbles the quoting of your email messages?

Long for the days of legacy email clients like PINE? Then you need this:

Outlook-QuoteFix

It works, and does what it advertises it does. Has some limitations though, like you can't use Word as your editor. Why would you do that? Well you might need to use templates, or really need the spell checker as you type (like me) and/or some of the other functions.

But it's nifty.

If I didn't have to fit into the Outlook-ized Corporate world with a standardized sig and all that jaz I'd probalby be using it.
